| Santa Cruz California is a city that abounds with cultural activities. Music is available in many flavors at any time. In May of 2000, I had the pleasure and fortune of meeting Mike Long, a local Celtic musician. He invited me to join in with a group of other musicians that he regularly plays with. The music is mostly fast paced dance music, but also some slow airs and waltzes. Most of the music is from Ireland and has been passed down for generations from musician to musician. | |

A session is a get together of musicians to play traditional Celtic music. While we regularly gather in public places to play, we come for the enjoyment of the musicians not to perform for the public. That said, we usually draw a crowd of happy patrons, and the local barkeeps are glad to have us session at their establishments |
| The instruments are varied. Guitar, bouzouki, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, flute, whistle, uilleann pipes, bagpipes, accordian, bodhran (drum), bones, and spoons are all common instruments played at our sessions. |

By day we come from diverse backgrounds, computer folk, a holographer, several contractors, artists, teachers, a veterinarian (guess who), and others. At night we are all here for the same thing, our music fix, a chance to share our music with each other. A chance to pass down the music to the next generation and keep it alive. |
| These photos were taken at a recent session in a local pub, the Britannia Arms, in Aptos, CA. We play there the 2nd Sunday of every month. |
